Providing Support for PBS.org
Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(gentle bright music) - We are making an exhibition about the 100th anniversary of WKAR.
Let's take a look at some of the broadcast technology that we have down here.
This is a great place for students to get involved and to do museum studies hands-on.
Ah, look at that, easy.
I have to give lots of credit to these students.
They're really dedicated to this project and they've created something really exceptional.
- This whole project is super collaborative.
We're all using different strengths, and skills, and backgrounds that we have.
- [Suzanne] We have a plan for the exhibition, we have objects here, and we are finalizing the labels.
- We want people to come in and be proud of the fact that WKAR is something that came from Michigan State University.
- WKAR was such a groundbreaking station.
It's over a hundred years old.
It not only provides information to the community, but brings the community together.
- Let's take a look at our exhibit.
(audience clapping hands) Today is a very exciting day for the WKAR team.
Experiential learning has always been an important part of the work that we do at WKAR.
This exhibit was put together by students.
And that gave those students the opportunity to really understand who we are and what we mean to this community.
- Oh!
(crowd chattering) - We love supporting WKAR at MSUFCU.
The station has been innovating since day one and we're still benefiting from that.
All the cultural benefits that we love as a community, WKAR brings together in one place and makes it accessible for all of our friends and neighbors.
Free over the air and all about the community.
- Everyone who comes here to see this exhibit.
They will not only see where we began, but they will understand how this local station has changed, and evolved, and adapted to meet the needs of the people of this community.
And that's what we're gonna continue to do for the next 100 years.
